PS5 Pro Stock Scarcity After GTA 6

PS5 Pro consoles have become nearly impossible to find at major retailers following last week’s GTA 6 reveal. The timing of Rockstar’s announcement has sparked a surge in demand that retailers were not prepared for, leaving many shoppers scrambling to secure Sony’s most powerful console.
Where to Find the Console
PlayStation Direct remained the only major US retailer with the PS5 Pro available at its $899 list price as of Tuesday afternoon. The company’s official store has been restocking periodically, though inventory sells out within hours of becoming available. Other major chains have not fared as well.
Amazon and Walmart listed the PS5 Pro exclusively through third-party sellers at prices hovering around $1,299. Best Buy and Target showed no available inventory at either physical locations or online. The situation has created a two-tier market where official pricing and inflated resale values exist side by side.

Recent eBay sales suggest some buyers are indeed paying the premium. New, sealed units have sold for up to $1,200, according to completed listings on the auction site. It remains unclear how many transactions are actually completing at these raised price points, but the listings themselves signal that demand is running well ahead of supply.
The GTA 6 Factor
The sudden interest in the PS5 Pro traces directly to Rockstar’s reveal event last week. The game will include enhancements specifically designed for Sony’s upgraded hardware, though the company has not specified what those improvements will entail. During the extended gameplay demonstration, the title looked visually strong on the base PS5, which may have only intensified interest in the Pro model.
Performance expectations remain modest. The base PS5 version of the game is unlikely to maintain 60 frames per second, and analysts have suggested even the Pro model may struggle to hit that benchmark consistently. Rockstar has not provided details on specific PS5 Pro enhancements, leaving prospective buyers to weigh speculation against the current price premium.
For those who missed the initial reveal, the window to purchase at retail pricing may be closing. Sony typically restocks major retailers ahead of significant game launches, and the November 19 release date for GTA 6 gives the company roughly two months to address the shortage.

The company has not confirmed a specific restock timeline, but industry observers expect new inventory to appear before the game hits stores. Sony has historically prioritized availability for major releases, and GTA 6 represents one of the most anticipated titles in the console’s lifecycle.
For shoppers still hunting a console, PlayStation Direct remains the most reliable option at this stage. Checking the store during restock windows and having payment information ready has proven effective for previous drops. Third-party marketplaces offer immediate availability but require paying a premium that significantly exceeds the official retail price.
GTA 6 launches November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version has not been announced.
