Google Play Store to Add Pause and Resume for App - pause app download
For years, users have asked for the feature to be included on Google’s support page and on Reddit.

Google is nearing the point of introducing the ability to pause and then resume app downloads on the Play Store, a feature that has long been requested. An examination of version 53.0 of the Google Play Store carried out by Android Authority showed that a pause-and-resume function was present, and this function was successfully activated on Android phones. Once it is officially launched, users will be able to pause an app download and pick it up again later instead of having to either cancel the download or let it carry on.

Google has not yet announced the feature. For years, users have asked for the feature to be included on Google’s support page and on Reddit. The pause-and-resume feature enables users to halt an app download at any point and then pick it up again later. This is helpful when a user is about to reach their daily data limit since rather than cancelling the download or allowing it to keep using data, they can pause it and resume it the next day or when they are connected to Wi-Fi.

The “Pause” button shows up immediately after the user has pressed “Install” on the app’s listing page. It is also present in the Play Store’s download manager, allowing users to pause or resume their downloads without having to be on the app page. Since Android Authority was able to turn the feature on their phones, this is a clear sign that Google is at the final stage of developing it. The presence of this feature in the download manager provides an additional layer of convenience, as users can manage their downloads from a centralized location.

Google has not officially introduced the feature, so there is no confirmed date for its release. It is very likely the feature will be available soon, since it was found to be working in the version 53.0 teardown. However, as is the case with any finding from a teardown, the feature could still be altered before it is made publicly available. This flexibility means developers might tweak the user interface or change how the button behaves before the rollout begins. The upcoming release of this feature is expected to enhance the overall user experience on the Play Store, providing more control over app downloads.
