Moroccan Health Tech Firm Gets 40 Million Dollars - health tech
The investment, equivalent to around MAD 396.8 million, is subject to customary closing conditions and approval from Morocco’s Competition Council.

A Moroccan health-tech firm, ABA Life, has secured a $40 million growth-equity financing from Admaius Capital Partners, a pan-African private equity group. This investment aims to accelerate ABA Life’s plans to become Morocco’s first technology unicorn while scaling operations beyond its domestic market.

The investment, equivalent to around MAD 396.8 million, is subject to customary closing conditions and approval from Morocco’s Competition Council. The regulator has opened a public consultation on the proposed transaction, with interested parties able to submit observations until November 9, 2026.

ABA Life’s Expansion Plans

ABA Life is fully owned by ABA Technology, the Moroccan technology company that launched the healthcare division. Under the planned arrangement, Virunga Genesis Ltd, a Rwandan investment firm indirectly managed by an Admaius-advised fund, will subscribe to reserved capital increases in ABA Life.

ABA Technology and the Admaius entity would then jointly manage the company. According to Dealroom, Admaius is projected to hold a 12% to 14% stake following the capital infusion. The parties have not revealed ABA Life’s valuation after the investment or issued its financial statements.

The deal is categorized as growth equity, ensuring the new capital funds the company’s operations instead of providing an exit for current shareholders. This investment ranks among the largest African HealthTech funding deals disclosed this year.

ABA Life’s Healthcare Focus

Founded in 2021, ABA Life is the healthcare subsidiary of ABA Technology, a group established in 2020 and based at Casablanca Technopark. ABA Technology employs around 1,200 people, including more than 725 engineers and technicians, and develops its own AI platform, Fusion AI, in Morocco.

ABA Life works across medical devices, connected healthcare infrastructure, telemedicine, care delivery and clinical AI. It has partnered with Moroccan public institutions and foundations on projects including Covid-19 vaccine cold-chain logistics and connected mobile health units for rural communities with limited access to medical care.

In June 2026, ABA Life signed a strategic partnership with the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health (FM6SS) to establish a joint venture focused on AI-powered health infrastructure. The first solutions are scheduled for deployment in October 2026, with several Moroccan health facilities expected to be covered by 2027.

ABA Life plans to use the $40 million investment to advance its “AI for Sovereign Health” programme, expand industrial production and deployment of medical technologies and connected infrastructure, and enter international markets. The company has not named its first expansion destinations or explained how it will divide the funding among those priorities.

Its investment in ABA Life is part of the proposed $500 million Virunga Africa Fund II, which targets mid-sized African companies. Half of the fund’s capital will be allocated to North Africa.

Expansion and Growth

ABA Life’s model is intended to address gaps in Morocco’s healthcare system, including fragmented workflows and limited integration of AI-based decision support. The company’s sovereign-AI strategy focuses on developing and governing healthcare technology locally.

The approach has drawn attention in Morocco since the Covid-19 pandemic, as policymakers have raised concerns about data control and dependence on foreign technology platforms. ABA Technology describes Fusion AI as an AI operating system developed and operated in Morocco.

Market demand could support ABA Life’s growth, with Morocco’s e-health and telemedicine market projected to rise from $1.318 billion in 2025 to $2.492 billion by 2031. The healthcare system is also dealing with rising rates of chronic conditions.
